Deanna Price Makes Her Run to the Olympics with Inversion
Deanna Price is accustomed to a little heavy lifting. The NCAA title holder in the women’s hammer throw competition for two years running, Price recently earned a coveted spot on the Olympic team.
Price — whose record throw of 238-5 inches ranks her third in the nation — will soon be heading to Brazil to represent the U.S. in one of the Games’ most iconic events. But not too long ago after injuring her back this past spring, the pain could sometimes be unbearable.
“I was in extreme pain,” she explained to her hometown newspaper The Lincoln County Journal. “Couldn’t even lift a gallon of milk without excruciating pain.”
Price was in fear of having her Olympic dreams dashed due to two bulging discs and three compressed ones. While she could still compete within her collegiate division, the distances she was throwing were nowhere near her record — and nowhere near what she would need to throw to compete against the best in the world.
When medication didn’t help, Price’s parents were inspired to purchase an inversion table, which she claims soon made all the difference.
“I immediately began to use the table twice a day — and sometimes more if the pain persisted,” she told the Journal. She even went to the trouble of shipping the inversion table out to Eugene, Oregon for the Olympic Trials. The trouble was worth it: Price placed third in the trials, and earned her spot on the team!
The benefits of inversion therapy on a Teeter have long been documented. Along with back pain relief, decreased muscle tension and increased flexibility are just a few of the benefits inverting on a Teeter can bring. According to medical experts at the Mayo Clinic:
“…inversion therapy takes gravitational pressure off the nerve roots and disks in your spine and increases the space between vertebrae…to relieve back pain.”
In Price’s case, the benefits of inversion did not just stop there – she has achieved a lifelong dream.
